climate conversations

National Audubon Society
film production & story development

Between polarized politics and the barrage of climate change headlines, people have been driven farther away from the climate change conversation. The National Audubon Society is made up of members that cross the political spectrum, putting them in a unique position in the conservation space.

Recognizing this, Audubon wanted to create a series of videos to depoliticize climate change by sharing stories that highlight people from different backgrounds who care deeply about the environment.

In this series, we created videos about Kenneth, a street-wear artist using fashion to center climate in the daily conversation, Benji, a climate denier turned Conservative climate activist committed to bridging the political gap to find climate solutions, and Jim, a rancher fighting to save what remains of Florida’s undeveloped land.

inspiring climate action through fashion

Kenneth is a street-wear artist from Memphis, TN, and a student at Xavier University in New Orleans. He is passionate about art and the environment, and he is slightly obsessed with finding four-leaf clovers.

His story is a great example of how you can take what you love to do and apply it to the causes you care about.

For him, it’s fashion design and climate change.

Here’s how he puts it: ‘You don’t have to be a full-on environmentalist to make a change. My goal is to inspire people to find your own purpose within it.’

from climate denier to climate activist

As a young teenager Benji Backer thought climate change was a hoax.

Now he runs a conservation organization, the American Conservation Coalition, where he tries to bridge the political gap to find solutions to climate change.

‘This is not about Republican or Democrat, conservative or liberal,’ he says. ‘If you don’t have both sides at the table, climate change will never be solved.’”

Saving
florida

As a Florida cattle rancher, Jim Strickland has a front row seat to climate change. He also has a front row seat to the effects of rapid land development in Florida. When it’s difficult to make ends meet, Jim knows how strong the temptation is to sell farmland to developers.

He also knows that the impact of losing working lands to developments can be catastrophic. Florida’s working lands store water, capture pollutants, and support some of the state’s most iconic wildlife.

Jim is working to find ways to keep farmers and ranchers on their lands so that they can continue to play an important role in conserving the environment.
