Cleaner Air, Healthier Children
The Health Effects Institute (HEI) needed a resource for educating audiences on the impact of air pollution on children’s health. The data and the science are clear, but they needed a story to make it compelling and persuasive.
In this explainer animation, we show five hypothetical children all experiencing health impacts caused by air pollution.
Each child experiences different impacts, influenced by their geographic location, exposure level and the pollution source. Viewers learn about the many harms associated with air pollution as well as the interventions and research being done to create change.
We worked in close collaboration with HEI’s communications and science teams to combine story and data in a way that was both accurate and easy for audiences to understand.

Our Process
We take “partnership” seriously. Taking the time to work collaboratively opens doors for us to tell stories creatively and effectively. From story design through post-production, we facilitated review calls with a core team of HEI staff that influenced everything from the explainer animation style to the voice over narration.
Our goal is not to create a video and collect feedback at the end—but to strategically engage with partners throughout the creation process. This is why thoughtful collaboration is at the core of our work. These discussions cultivate the inspiration and insights necessary to create incredible videos for our clients.
